power und beauty is back 1

Unfortunately, I chose to cut some costs on my album manufacturing and wasn’t able to put full liner notes and lyrics in the physical copies of the new cd. So…I posted a new page on this website that has complete lyrics for both this new upcoming album and my first album, Bitter Blue. The new album lyrics also include who played what on each song on the cd so that when you listen to it you will know!
I also posted a bunch of photos from the very last recording session of the album that was done here in Spokane. Kory is from Spokane originally and loves visiting his old hometown. He had no arguments over bringing his gear over so that some of my local band could be a part of the recordings. My gracious brother and his roomates let us take over their beautiful house for a weekend. Here’s a few photos…check out the rest on myspace.

Recording vocals for “Some Other Plan,” Joel Smith, Jared Dunn, Henry Nordstrom and Zac Fairbanks had no idea what they were getting themselves into. But look at Zac’s awesome singing stance!

We recording a bunch of different percussion parts at the same time with this amazing ribbon mic that pans according to where you stand in direction to it. What you can’t see is Jared Dunn to my left with a tambourine. Probably still dancing around long after the take is over.

taking a break, Kory, Scott, Jared and myself. Nice house huh?

This is Melanie Brown. She came all the way from Portland to take pictures of our weekend. Her and I joke sometimes about me being Elliot Smith and her being Autmn De Wilde. Someday she’s going to make a book about me with all of the photographs she’s taken over the years of my career.

Anna from Olive Green and Power Und Beauty came by to record some amazing harmonies on a song that didn’t make the album cut, but will be released on an EP in the future. Shannon, to her right helped out with the song, Moving Slow. Oh and yes, that’s Kaylee Cole’s Nord Keyboard I got to use on a song. Thanks Kaylee! (:
The Seattle sky is about 40 percent grey today. And it’s cold. I hope we have one more week of warm fall left in Spokane, I’m not quite ready for this.
This morning we worked on a new song I wrote on the ukulele. Caroline and I added lots of old timey harmonies and “ba-dum-dum’s.” Snaps and claps and jingle bells came next before Billy from the Beautiful Clarks came over to add some dirty lap steel to a few songs. The new version of Down the Line is sounding pretty dang sweet. Chris from the Beautiful Clarks is also coming by here in a bit to play upright bass on a few songs.
The harmonies and vocals Caroline and I did yesterday are really fun and bringing each song together to sound more cohesive. We have a bit more vocals to work on today and then back home tomorrow for a weekend of show!
