CRUNK ROOST 1
After years of pondering and dreaming about starting a music Zine in Spokane, I got together with Chrisy Riddle, the owner of Empyrean and really began planning how it could be possible. We talked for a few months and wrote plenty of lists on napkins and notepads while sitting at Far West drinking Jameson of what we would need to accomplish to get the ball rolling.
There came a point when Chrisy told me, “Karli, you know we are going to hate ourselves for starting this and regret it every day right?” I nodded in agreement and thoughts of sleepless nights and piles of todo lists cascaded through my mind. My mind was becoming fully aware of how much work it would be. But something turned in my stomach, from worry to angst to excitement and with a smile and a toast I responded finally with a “BUT WE HAVE TO DO IT!” Of course, being the masochists that we are, we clinked our glasses and continued to plan and pull others into our dream.
Now, a little further into fruition we have a release date for our publication, a list of contributors, a name, and a pretty awesome plan. It’s exciting watching it all come together, although there have been some profound negative realizations even this early into it.
I’m writing this on my personal blog because I can write whatever I want here. But Crunk Roost is a project that Chrisy and I are starting from scratch. We have our own personal opinions of music and writing and art. We aren’t aiming to please everyone or include everyone. And I suppose people will be mad about that…and a few already are. If you really like metal and hip hop, you probably will not like Crunk Roost. But then again, if you really like metal and hip hop more than other music, I have no idea why you would be reading my blog.
If you are interested in supporting Crunk Roost or being involved in what we are doing, please check out the Website…
And the myspace…
Also. I’m playing at the Spokane Poetry Slam tonight as the feature artist. It’s a “Song Slam” theme tonight. All the poets are using lyrics from songs in their poems and get extra points for air guitar solos. Should be a fun night. And…I’m trying out my new amp too! yay!
